The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has issued Government Order No. 1203-JK(GAD) of 2023, dated October 6, 2023, announcing the appointment of Mr. Irfan Manzoor as the Complaint Officer in the General Administration Department. This appointment is in accordance with Section 11 of ‘The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019′.
Mr. Irfan Manzoor, a JKAS (Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service) officer currently serving as Under Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, has been entrusted with the role of Complaint Officer. This appointment underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of transgender persons’ rights within the region.
The order copy accessed by The Chenab Times, signed by Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Mr. Sanjeev Verma, IAS, states that this decision has been made in compliance with the aforementioned act. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019 is a significant legal framework aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of transgender individuals.
The order, bearing reference No. GAD-MTGORBIV/35/2023-09 (7144465), is effective immediately, and Mr. Irfan Manzoor will assume his role as the Complaint Officer to oversee matters related to transgender rights in the General Administration Department.
