Elon Musk Labels Pro-palestine Slogan ‘From the River…’ as Genocidal, Announces Suspension for X Users

In a recent announcement, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has declared a firm stand against language promoting genocide on his social media platform, X. Musk’s statements came in response to discussions surrounding phrases such as “From the river to the sea” and the concept of “decolonization.”

Musk re-shared a post on Friday, asserting that the phrase “From the river to the sea” implies genocide and that individuals advocating such acts will face suspension on the X platform. The post explicitly linked the term “decolonization” with a suggestion of Jewish genocide, deeming it unacceptable.

The CEO addressed the issue by emphasizing that clear calls for extreme violence violate the platform’s terms of service and will result in suspension. Musk reiterated this point when responding to a user who likened “decolonization” to a form of jihad, emphasizing that advocating genocide of any group will not be tolerated on the platform.

Concerns were raised about influential accounts supporting what was referred to as “Hamas’ massacre.” Musk responded unequivocally, stating that anyone calling for the genocide of any people would face suspension on the platform.

The slogan “From the river to the sea” has long been used by Palestinians and pro-Palestinian campaigners to express their aspirations for the liberation of historic Palestine from the occupation. However, Israeli sympathizers argue that the slogan implies the destruction of Israel and effectively calls for genocide.
