Jammu – In a tragic turn of events, an army officer lost his life, and three members of the elite para forces sustained injuries during an ongoing gunfight in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district today.
News agency GNS reported that official sources disclosed that the deceased was an officer from the 63 Rashtriya Rifles, while the injured personnel belonged to the elite 9 Para unit. The injured soldiers have been promptly shifted to the hospital for medical attention.
The encounter unfolded in the Baji area of Kalakot in Rajouri district, with the firefight ensnaring militants and security forces. Deputy Inspector General of Police Haseeb Mughal revealed that a meticulously planned cordon and search operation was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs.
As the joint team comprising police and security forces progressed towards the suspected area, militants in hiding opened fire, leading to a fierce encounter, stated the officer. The gun battle is currently ongoing, and news reports indicate that two militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
