In a deeply unfortunate incident, a Special Police Officer (SPO), identified as Mohammad Maqbool Ganie, lost his life today after being struck by a speeding sumo vehicle while on duty at a naka in Bumzoo, Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials reported that the fatal incident occurred when SPO Ganie, son of Abdul Aziz Ganie of Shangus, was performing his duties at the naka. The vehicle involved in the accident bears registration number JK012 1976. Ganie sustained critical injuries in the collision and, despite immediate efforts to transport him for medical treatment, tragically succumbed to his injuries en route.
The accused driver has been identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sidiq Bhat, hailing from Hapatnard Aishmuqam. Law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending the driver at the scene. A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and a thorough investigation is underway.
A police official, confirming the details of the incident, expressed condolences for the loss of SPO Ganie and assured that the legal process would be diligently followed.
