In a decisive move against the rising tide of drug abuse in the region, Kishtwar District Police have detained Mahfooza Begum, a notorious drug peddler, under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Mahfooza Begum hails from Sarkoot Kishtwar and has been implicated in multiple drug peddling cases.
According to a police statement issued to The Chenab Times, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar explained that this detention is part of a broader, multi-pronged strategy aimed at curbing the rampant drug abuse affecting the community. Extensive investigations confirmed Mahfooza Begum’s involvement in several drug trafficking activities, leading to her detention under the PSA to prevent further harm to the local population, especially the youth.
Following the issuance of the PSA orders, a special team was formed under the supervision of Dy.SP Headquarters Kishtwar to apprehend Mahfooza Begum. The operation was executed successfully, and she is now lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
The SSP highlighted the district police’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, which include organizing awareness programs and enforcing strict legal actions against drug traffickers. He issued a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade, stating that such activities will not be tolerated in Kishtwar, and urged offenders to reintegrate into society or face severe repercussions.
