In a devastating road accident at Daksum in the Kokernag area, eight members of a single family from Kishtwar district lost their lives. The incident occurred when their vehicle, a Maruti Swift bearing registration number JK03H 9017, skidded off the road while they were traveling from Kishtwar to Marwah via Sinthan Top.
Among the deceased were five children and a police officer, highlighting the tragic nature of the incident. As per sources of The Chenab Times, the family was identified as residents of Tehsil Marwah, District Kishtwar. The deceased are Imtiyaz Rather (45), son of Ghulam Rasool Rather; Afroza Begum (40), wife of Imtiyaz Rather; Reshma (40), wife of Majid Ahmad; Areeba Imtiyaz (12), daughter of Imtiyaz Rather; Aniya Jan (10), daughter of Imtiyaz Rather; Abaan Imtiyaz (6), son of Imtiyaz Rather; Musaib Majid (16), son of Majid Ahmad; and Mushail Majid (8), son of Majid Ahmad.
Imam Jamia Kishtwar, Farooq Kichloo’s PSO was also among those who lost their lives in this catastrophic accident, sources said. The public across Kishtwar has been left in shock and mourning following the news.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save any of the occupants of the vehicle, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which is suspected to be due to the difficult and often dangerous road conditions in the region.
The accident has cast a pall of gloom over the Kishtwar district, with local leaders and residents expressing their condolences to the bereaved family. Further details and updates are awaited as the investigation continues.
