Two VDG Members Killed in Kishtwar

In a tragic development, two Village Defence Guard (VDG) members from the Kishtwar district are feared to have been killed by militants after they went missing while grazing cattle in the Munzla Dhar (Adhwari) area under Police Post Kuntwara. The bodies of Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar, both residents of Ohli Kuntwara, have not yet been recovered, but disturbing images shared widely on social media have raised fears about their fate.

Sources told The Chenab Times that Nazir Ahmed, son of Mohd Khalil, and Kuldeep Kumar, son of Amar Chand, were known to regularly travel to the Munzla Dhar area to graze their cattle. However, on the day of their disappearance, they did not return to their respective homes. Following their absence, local police and army forces launched a search operation in an attempt to locate the two men.

Images that have surfaced on social media depict the condition of the bodies, though they have not been recovered yet. The images show the bodies of the two VDG members with their hands and mouths reportedly tied with cloth, leading to widespread speculation that they were captured and executed by militants. These images have sparked outrage and concern among local residents and authorities alike.

Times of India reported that an offshoot of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group, known as the “Kashmir Tigers,” claimed responsibility for the killing of two Village Defence Group (VDG) members, Kuldeep Kumar and Nazir Ahmed. According to a statement from the group, the two men had been chasing the militants through the dense forests of Kishtwar in Kashmir, but were caught after closing in on them. The militants reportedly restrained them and, after they confessed to their actions, executed them. The statement served as a warning to others, declaring that those who join the VDG and collaborate with the Indian Army would face the same fate.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with local law enforcement and military personnel intensifying efforts to uncover the truth behind the disappearance and death of the two VDG members. Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the militants involved and are working to recover the bodies for further examination.

Sanatan Dharma Sabha calls for Kishtwar Bandh on Friday condemning the killings of VDGs.
