Two Suspects Detained in Murder of Family of Five in Meerut

NEW DELHI – The Meerut police on Friday detained two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a mason, his wife, and their three young daughters. The victims were discovered in their rented home in the Lisadi Gate area of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, late Thursday evening.

The victims, identified as Mohammad Moin (38), his wife Asma (35), and their daughters Afsa (8), Aziza (4), and Adiba (1), were found in a gruesome state. Moin’s body was tied to a bed, while the bodies of his wife and children were wrapped in bedsheets and concealed inside the storage compartment of the same bed, police said. The house had been locked from the outside, raising suspicions of premeditated foul play.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada confirmed that a case has been registered based on a complaint from Asma’s relatives. “Three named suspects and several unidentified individuals have been booked. Two of the named suspects are currently in custody, and others are being questioned,” Tada said.

The discovery of the crime was made when Moin’s brother, Salim, alerted by the family’s sudden disappearance, visited the house. Repeated attempts to access the locked home failed, prompting him to enlist the help of neighbors to break in. The horrific scene inside led to an immediate call to the police.

Neighbors described the family as new to the area, having moved to the Lisadi Gate neighborhood approximately 45 days ago. Moin, originally from Shahjahanpur, was a mechanic by trade and had been constructing a house for his family while living in the rented accommodation.

According to SSP Tada, the background of the victims and their short tenure in the neighborhood are being closely examined to identify potential motives and suspects.

“This is a tragic and chilling incident. We are committed to uncovering the truth behind these murders,” Tada said.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities questioning multiple individuals linked to the case. The police have not disclosed further details about the motive or the suspects detained.
