Former JEI Leaders Launch New Political Party in Jammu and Kashmir

Kulgam, Feb 24 – In a significant political development, former leaders of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JEI) have announced the formation of a new political party, the Jammu Kashmir Justice Development Front (JKJDF). The announcement was made during a workers’ convention held in Kulgam district, a region historically known for its support of the JEI.

The newly formed JKJDF aims to unify former JEI members who previously contested elections as independents. Party leaders have already submitted an application to the Election Commission seeking official recognition and an election symbol.

Shameem Ahmad, the president of JKJDF and a former JEI member, expressed optimism about the new political movement. “Our goal is to establish a transparent governance model that prioritizes the needs of the people over empty promises,” he said.

Sayir Reshi, another prominent figure in the party who previously ran for office in the last assembly elections, outlined the party’s vision. “We aim to create a political framework grounded in justice and genuine development,” Reshi stated. He noted that their inability to contest under a unified banner in previous elections had been a significant drawback. However, with the establishment of JKJDF, the party intends to participate actively in upcoming local body elections.

“We are committed to selecting educated representatives from various regions who will advocate for their communities and combat social evils,” Reshi added.

The JKJDF plans to officially launch its campaign from Srinagar in the coming weeks, with the goal of mobilizing support across Jammu and Kashmir. As the region navigates its complex political landscape, the emergence of JKJDF marks a new chapter for former JEI members striving to enter mainstream politics following the ban on the organization.
