The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued orders to increase monthly pension amounts under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), benefiting elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, and transgender individuals. According to Government Order No. 6-JK(SWD) of 2025 dated April 9, 2025, accessed by The Chenab Times, the revised rates will come into effect from April 1, 2025.
Under the new structure, beneficiaries below 60 years will receive Rs 1,250 per month, while those aged 60 to 79 years will get Rs 1,500. Individuals aged 80 and above will see their pensions rise to Rs 2,000 per month. The order, signed by Commissioner/Secretary Sanjeev Verma, IAS, replaces all previous directives on the matter.
The enhanced pensions will be disbursed strictly to beneficiaries approved under the NSAP guidelines issued by the Government of India and the ISSS rules framed by the Jammu and Kashmir government in 2022. Notably, beneficiaries transitioning to a higher age bracket will receive the increased amount from the month following their birthday. For instance, a pensioner turning 60 in May will start receiving Rs 1,500 from June onwards.
The decision follows the Council of Ministers’ approval on March 27, 2025, and subsequent clearance from the Finance Department. The move is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen social security measures in the region, as outlined in the 2022 ISSS framework.
The Social Welfare Department has been tasked with ensuring smooth implementation, and the order has been circulated among top officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. Authorities are expected to issue further operational guidelines in the coming days.
