Omar Abdullah Urges Decisive Action Against Terrorism, Cautions Against Civilian Harm

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday called for a decisive and targeted fight against terrorism, urging authorities to avoid actions that could harm innocent civilians.

In a post on X, Abdullah said, “After the Pahalgam terror attack, there must be a decisive fight against terrorism and its origin. People of Kashmir have come out openly against terrorism and the murder of innocent people; they did this freely and spontaneously.”

He emphasized the need to build on the public’s support and warned against any “misplaced action” that could alienate the population.
“Punish the guilty, show them no mercy but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage,” Abdullah added.

His remarks follow concerns raised by regional leaders Mehbooba Mufti and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who criticized reports of damage to the properties of civilians during counter-terror operations.

The Pahalgam attack, which left several security personnel dead, has sparked widespread condemnation across Kashmir, with many residents and political figures urging a calibrated response to prevent further unrest.
