Educational Institutions Closed in Eight J&K Districts Amid Heightened Tensions

JAMMU/SRINAGAR – All schools, colleges, and educational institutions in eight districts across Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure amid heightened cross-border tensions, authorities said.

According to official statements issued separately by the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, the shutdown affects educational institutions in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch in the Jammu region, as well as Baramulla, Kupwara, and Gurez in the Kashmir Valley.

The closures come in the wake of Indian precision strikes on alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and subsequent cross-border shelling, which killed three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

While officials have not specified the duration of the shutdown beyond Wednesday, the move is being seen as a safety measure in response to potential security risks and escalating hostilities along the Line of Control.

Authorities have advised residents in border areas to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement. Additional security deployments have also been reported in sensitive zones.
