Two Youths Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway

PALGHAR, MAY 12 (The Chenab Times) – Two young men died in a motorcycle crash on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The victims, identified as Ashok Dattu Handva (also reported as Khandwa), 25, and Paras Sunil Vartha (also reported as Wartha), 18, were residents of Khandiwade in Palghar district. The fatal incident occurred near the Sakwar area as the duo was returning home from a wedding ceremony held in the Haloli-Bot area, adjacent to the highway.

According to Mandvi police, the accident took place around 8:40 p.m. on the southbound carriageway. The two were riding a two-wheeler at high speed when it collided with a concrete divider, resulting in a severe crash. Both sustained critical injuries and were declared dead on the spot.

Police reached the scene following a call from bystanders, conducted a panchnama (spot inspection), and sent the bodies for post-mortem. The case has been registered as an accidental death at Mandvi police station.

“We have booked Handva under Section 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for causing the death of his friend and himself,” a police official said.

Authorities are awaiting a report from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to determine whether any mechanical fault in the motorcycle contributed to the accident. Police said a closure report will be filed if no defect is found.
