BENGALURU, May 21 (The Chenab Times) – The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has lodged a police complaint against Amit Malviya, head of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) IT cell, and Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, accusing them of disseminating false and provocative content online.
The First Information Report (FIR), filed at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru, was registered under Sections 192 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to provocation with intent to cause riot and intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace, respectively.
The case stems from an online claim linking the Istanbul Congress Centre in Türkiye to the Indian National Congress, a connection the IYC denounced as “fabricated and misleading.”
“This is a criminally motivated act meant to provoke unrest and mislead the public,” said Shrikant Swaroop B N, head of the IYC’s legal cell, who filed the complaint. He also warned that the alleged disinformation comes at a sensitive time, given the strained diplomatic ties between India and Türkiye, and constitutes “a threat to democratic integrity.”
In addition to filing the police complaint, the IYC has urged the Press Council of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and other authorities to initiate further action.
Neither Malviya nor Goswami has issued a public response to the allegations at the time of reporting.
