JAMMU — Recent Torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides have affected 1,03,757 hectares of land in the Jammu division, with 1,00,000 hectares suffering more than 33 percent crop damage, according to preliminary reports from the Director of Agriculture Jammu, Anil Gupta, as received by The Chenab Times.
Gupta instructed all Chief Agriculture Officers to conduct accurate crop-cutting surveys for a proper assessment. Insurance companies have been directed to deploy field staff to affected areas, coordinate with panchayat-level agriculture officers, and share data on CC Agri Mobile App training.
The Director chaired a review meeting on Wednesday with state heads of insurance companies at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo, to strengthen coordination under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for timely claim redressal. Attendees included Joint Director Sohan Singh, Deputy Director Priyanka Parihar, and representatives from Bajaj Allianz and Reliance General Insurance, who assured full cooperation for quick processing.
Gupta empathized with farmers’ hardships and urged them to report losses via the PMFBY toll-free number for timely compensation. “Farmers’ cooperation will help us ensure speedy redressal and safeguard your livelihoods,” he said.
