Three Killed, Eight Injured in Southport Yacht Basin Shooting

Southport, September 28 — Three people were killed and eight others injured when a shooter fired from a boat into a crowd at the American Fish Company restaurant dock in the Southport Yacht Basin around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities declared an active shooter situation and urged residents to stay indoors and report suspicious activity, according to details received by The Chenab Times.

Public information officer ChyAnn Ketchum stated the boat paused briefly before the gunman opened fire and fled up the Intracoastal Waterway, as reported by Star News. City Manager Noah Saldo confirmed several victims were transported to hospitals.

A City of Southport Facebook post at approximately 10 p.m. described reports of an active shooter with an unknown number of injuries, advising avoidance of the area. The vessel was identified as a white center console boat, according to The Chenab Times.

As of 11:30 p.m., a person of interest was under questioning, but no arrests had been made. Law enforcement remained on scene, with an investigation ongoing.
