Punjab’s Young Composer Kirat Parneet Blends Devotional and Folk Elements in Her Music

Kirat Parneet, a 23-year-old singer, lyricist and composer from Village Chabhal in Punjab, has released a series of tracks that incorporate devotional themes alongside folk influences and elements of contemporary Punjabi music.

Born on March 1, 2002, in Chabhal, Ms. Parneet grew up in a rural setting where music formed part of daily life, including village events and religious practices at the local gurdwara. She started writing verses and composing melodies during her teenage years and now handles the lyrics, arrangements and vocals for her songs.

Among her released works are “Kanshi Wale Guru,” a devotional track that combines spiritual references with straightforward melodies; “Guru Ravidass Di Mahima,” which draws on traditional cultural and religious motifs; “Chimta Tere Naam Da,” a folk-oriented piece featuring rhythms from the chimta percussion instrument; and “Dera Mastan Da,” an introspective composition with narrative lyrics.

Ms. Parneet’s vocals are described as clear and direct, her lyrics as plain yet resonant, and her arrangements as mixing traditional structures with modern production techniques. Her music addresses audiences interested in Punjabi heritage and evolving styles.

At 23, Ms. Parneet continues to develop her catalogue, which includes devotional, folk and narrative tracks. Her work reflects broader trends among younger Punjabi artists who integrate local traditions with current musical approaches.
