Una police and the drug department seized medicines worth ₹6 lakh manufactured without a license from a pharmaceutical unit in Bathu that had been closed for 14 years. The raid targeted illegal production activities uncovered on Thursday night.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, a team led by Special Investigation Branch in-charge Sunil Kumar Sankhyan acted on a tip-off and found illegally produced tablets on the premises. PTI reported that the unit’s license was revoked in 2011 due to serious deficiencies, yet operations continued without permission.

Drug Inspector Pankaj Gautam stated the seized drugs were for general use and included no banned substances. Action has been initiated against the factory owner under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Investigations are underway to trace supply chains and identify other involved parties.

Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav emphasized that regulatory violations will not be tolerated, with ongoing actions planned. The drug department will examine the quality, validity and documentation of the seized batch.

A joint team also inspected another pharma unit on Karmapur-Laldi Road, where no activity was found as it had been closed for an extended period. PTI noted nearly 50 pharmaceutical industries in Himachal Pradesh are defunct, with some engaging in illicit manufacturing.

A similar case surfaced recently in Baddi, where a closed company produced drugs under an Assamese factory’s name. The operator was remanded to judicial custody, while the supplier remains fugitive.

The Drug Control Administration’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force raided 20 units across the state on Wednesday in Sirmaur, Una, Kangra and Solan districts. Irregularities were detected at four locations, where production persisted despite closures.

State Drug Controller Manish Kapoor affirmed a zero-tolerance policy, warning of strict measures against non-compliant firms.
