Baramulla Pacer Auqib Nabi Dar Fetches Rs 8.40 Crore from Delhi Capitals in IPL Auction

Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi Dar from Baramulla district became the first cricketer from the Kashmir Valley to enter the Indian Premier League after Delhi Capitals acquired him for Rs 8.40 crore in the 2026 mini-auction. The 29-year-old’s base price was Rs 30 lakh.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, intense bidding involving Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad drove the price up 28 times the base amount. Hindustan Times reported the final contest between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad ended with Delhi securing the right-arm medium pacer.

Nabi has excelled in domestic cricket recently. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, he took 15 wickets in seven matches at an economy under eight. In the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, he claimed 29 wickets in nine innings, including three five-wicket hauls and 7/24 against Rajasthan. The previous season, he finished second among wicket-takers with 44 scalps at an average of 13.93.

Former Jammu and Kashmir captain Parvez Rasool praised Nabi’s calm temperament and control, noting strong red-ball basics aiding death bowling in shorter formats. As per reports celebrations in Sheeri village near Baramulla, with locals viewing it as inspiration for young cricketers despite limited facilities.

Nabi models his action on Dale Steyn and operates around 130 kmph with precise seam presentation and movement both ways. He debuted in first-class cricket in 2020 and served as net bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
