The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh heard the habeas corpus petition challenging the Public Safety Act detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, on Thursday. The matter was adjourned, with the next hearing fixed for December 27, 2025.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the court heard arguments from the petitioner’s side during the proceedings. As per reports submissions from the government side are scheduled for the next date. The case has experienced multiple adjournments in previous final hearings.
Malik was detained under PSA on September 8 for allegedly disturbing public order in Doda district. He filed the petition on September 24, seeking quashing of the detention order and Rs 5 crore compensation. The court will deliver its judgment after hearing the remaining arguments.
Supporters of Malik expressed hope for resolution in the upcoming hearing. Local sources reported anxiety among constituents awaiting the outcome. Malik remains lodged in Kathua jail.
