National Conference MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan meets Palestinian Foreign Minister in New Delhi, expresses solidarity with Palestine

New Delhi: National Conference MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan met Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, in New Delhi on Thursday and expressed strong solidarity with the Palestinian people while condemning violence against civilians in the ongoing conflict.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 2nd India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting being held in the national capital. During the interaction, MP Ramzan voiced deep concern over the disturbing visuals and reports emerging from Palestine, particularly the suffering of innocent civilians. He condemned the violence and reiterated that there is no military solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The National Conference spokesman said Mr. Ramzan called for a just, durable, and comprehensive peace, underlining the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and meaningful negotiations between the parties. “History shows violence deepens divisions, while dialogue opens the path to reconciliation and peace,” Mr. Ramzan told the Palestinian leader.

The spokesman added that Dr. Aghabekian, on January 29, briefed attendees—including diplomatic representatives—on the latest political developments, the ground situation, and the severe humanitarian crisis in Palestine. The MP’s engagement reflects the National Conference’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, consistent with India’s traditional advocacy for a negotiated two-state solution.

MP Ramzan, who represents a constituency in the Chenab Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, used the opportunity to convey the party’s position on the need for de-escalation and an end to civilian suffering. Sources within the National Conference described the meeting as constructive, with both sides acknowledging the value of sustained diplomatic efforts.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister’s visit to India marks her first official trip to the country in her current role. During her stay, she also held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, where they exchanged views on the Gaza situation, the proposed peace initiatives, and ways to strengthen India-Palestine bilateral ties. Dr. Aghabekian has publicly appreciated India’s balanced approach and its historical support for Palestinian self-determination.

This interaction comes against the backdrop of heightened international attention on the Israel-Palestine conflict, including repeated calls from global leaders and organisations for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access in Gaza. The National Conference statement emphasised that MP Ramzan’s message aligned with broader Indian foreign policy principles favouring peaceful resolution through dialogue.

No additional outcomes or follow-up engagements from the bilateral meeting were disclosed in the party’s statement. The development highlights continued people-to-people and political-level contacts between Indian leaders and Palestinian officials, even as the region grapples with protracted violence and humanitarian challenges.
