Jammu & Kashmir Congress Accuses BJP Government of Anti-Farmer, Anti-Poor Policies

Srinagar, Mar 29: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra has called upon farmers and the youth to work towards removing what he described as a “pro-rich, pro-corporate and anti-farmers, anti-common people regime” from the country. Karra urged them to safeguard their lands, jobs, and natural resources.

Farmers’ Sammelan in Jammu

Addressing a large gathering at a Kissan Sammelan (Farmers’ Conference) in Jammu, Karra asserted that the policies and programmes of the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government are detrimental to farmers, the poor, and the common populace. He cited an unprecedented price hike in commodities and alleged that the government has accepted a “counterproductive deal” under pressure from the United States.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Karra further stated that the common people have endured the most significant hardships under the BJP’s 12-year rule, which he claimed has primarily benefited large corporations. He alleged that the Prime Minister is now compromised to protect these corporate allies and his colleagues, having allegedly surrendered before Donald Trump and compromised the dignity and sovereignty of 140 crore Indians. Karra also demanded the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, characterising its current status as a betrayal by the central government.

Leaders Criticize Statehood Betrayal

Working President Raman Bhalla and former Member of Parliament Lal Singh were among the prominent leaders present at the event. Raman Bhalla strongly criticized the central government for allegedly betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the promise of statehood, a commitment he stated was reiterated multiple times by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. Bhalla highlighted the widespread suffering across Jammu and Kashmir due to the “dual control system” and the absence of statehood.

Bhalla drew attention to the difficulties faced by various sections of society, including unemployment, issues faced by daily wagers, flood-affected individuals, and farmers, all of whom he said are suffering due to a lack of accountability within the prevailing system. He emphasized that the prolonged denial of statehood has exacerbated these problems, impacting the overall development and well-being of the region’s residents.
