Jammu Marathon Spotlights J&K as Fitness Tourism Destination

JAMMU, March 29: A marathon themed ‘Temples to Trails’ held in Jammu aims to promote the region as a significant hub for fitness tourism and cultural exploration, according to officials.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Jammu Marathon commenced at Maulana Azad Stadium, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flagging off the event. Abdullah, an active runner, participated in the 21-kilometer half-marathon, completing the distance in approximately two hours despite challenging weather conditions.

Following his participation, participants gathered to take photographs with the Chief Minister, who received a positive reception upon finishing the race. His office released a statement on the social media platform X, detailing his involvement. The statement noted that the Chief Minister encouraged individuals from all backgrounds to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of fitness and overall well-being in daily routines.

The Chief Minister stated that the ‘Temples to Trails’ theme for the marathon is intended to establish Jammu as a dynamic destination for both fitness-related tourism and cultural experiences. This initiative seeks to highlight the area’s rich heritage alongside its picturesque landscapes.

Fitness enthusiast Milind Soman, who also competed in the half-marathon, described the event as a rewarding experience. Soman expressed his satisfaction at witnessing the Chief Minister’s participation in the run. Speaking to reporters, Soman mentioned completing 21 kilometers on the day of the marathon and an additional 20 kilometers the previous day while visiting the Vaishno Devi Temple. He concluded his remarks with the patriotic slogan “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”

Soman further commented on enjoying the run despite the rain, attributing his positive feelings to the enthusiasm of the local populace. He also reiterated his pleasure at seeing the Chief Minister actively participating in the event.

Actress Gul Panag acknowledged the significant enthusiasm displayed by both the runners and the organizing committee. She highlighted the substantial turnout for the inaugural edition of the marathon, noting that a large number of people participated despite adverse weather. Panag extended her congratulations to all individuals involved in the event, including participants and supporters.
