Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has successfully concluded its six-day women’s talent hunt program at the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. The initiative saw participation from nearly 200 cricketers hailing from various districts across the Kashmir Valley.
The selection camp, which commenced on March 23, incorporated a blend of trial matches and practice sessions, providing aspiring cricketers with a platform to demonstrate their skills under competitive match conditions. Players competed across multiple age categories, including Under-15, Under-19, Under-23, and the senior level.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, officials from the JKCA indicated that the Under-15 category garnered the highest number of selections during the initial shortlisting phase. Cricketers who have been shortlisted from the Srinagar leg will proceed to further evaluation in the subsequent stages of the talent hunt.
A JKCA official elaborated on the program’s design, stating that it was structured as a camp-cum-match exposure to ensure a thorough assessment of the players’ abilities. The shortlisted candidates will undergo a second round of evaluation following this initial phase.
The next segment of the talent hunt is scheduled to take place in Jammu, where cricketers from the Jammu division will participate in similar trials. Following the conclusion of these regional trials, a final round of shortlisting will be conducted to select the most promising talent.
The JKCA official further stated that this initiative is a part of the association’s ongoing commitment to bolstering the women’s cricket infrastructure within Jammu and Kashmir and identifying emerging talent suitable for progression to higher levels of competition.
