SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has earmarked 994 vacant posts of Physical Education Teachers (PETs) specifically for the regularisation of candidates enrolled under the Rehbar-e-Khel (ReK) policy. This move is in line with the existing framework governing the employment scheme.

The Chenab Times has learned that the government’s response, made public on Tuesday, indicated that this reservation is part of a phased regularisation process. An unstarred question submitted by MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi elicited the information, which stated that a total of 2,395 Rehbar-e-Khel candidates are slated for regularisation after completing seven years of satisfactory and continuous service. This policy was initially outlined under Government Order No. 141-Edu (YSS) of 2017.

The 994 reserved PET posts, in addition to other available vacancies, are deemed essential to facilitate the regularisation of these ReK candidates. The administration has confirmed that the specific modalities for executing this regularisation process are currently under review and consideration.

Clarifying recruitment procedures, the government stated that there are no current proposals to unfreeze these reserved posts or to forward them to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) for fresh recruitment. The posts have been specifically reserved to uphold the Rehbar-e-Khel policy’s objectives.

Information provided regarding employment registration indicates that signing up on the government’s employment portal is a voluntary act for unemployed youth. As of January 2026, approximately 3.50 lakh unemployed individuals have registered on this platform. Among the registered individuals, 440 candidates hold B.P.Ed qualifications and 473 possess M.P.Ed degrees, and are registered with the Employment Department.

The government also reported that 20 Physical Education Lecturers have been appointed to sanctioned posts. Furthermore, 2,395 physical education graduates have been engaged under the Rehbar-e-Khel policy, a scheme designed to create employment opportunities in the region.
