Jammu Division Penalises Over 11,000 Ticketless Passengers in March, Recovers ₹62 Lakh

JAMMU, March 31: Northern Railway’s Jammu division collected fines totalling approximately ₹62 lakh after penalising over 11,000 passengers travelling without valid tickets during intensive checking drives conducted throughout March. This intensified enforcement aims to enhance revenue and promote discipline within the railway system.

Intensified Checking Drives Yield Significant Results

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the railway authorities carried out rigorous checks at major entry and exit points across several stations. These included key locations such as Jammu, Katra, Srinagar, and Budgam within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Pathankot Cantonment in neighbouring Punjab.

The checking operations were particularly focused due to a notable increase in passenger traffic during the Navratri festival period. Railway officials stated that the ticket checking staff maintained a high level of vigilance, effectively curbing the presence of individuals travelling without proper documentation.

Revenue Increase and Passenger Advisories

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal commented on the operation, stating that the month of March typically presents challenges due to increased travel. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the ticket checking staff, who worked continuously to ensure a smooth travel experience for legitimate passengers. Singhal emphasised that the revenue generated is a testament to the growing adherence to railway regulations by the public.

Singhal further urged all passengers to consistently travel with valid tickets to prevent inconvenience and avoid penalties. The recovery of ₹62 lakh and the penalisation of over 11,000 individuals highlight the ongoing efforts by Northern Railway to ensure compliance and improve the overall efficiency of its services within the Jammu division.
