Jammu Super Bazar to Undergo Modern Overhaul with 25% Growth Target

JAMMU, March 30: Jammu Cooperative Wholesale Limited (JCWL), also known as Super Bazar Jammu, is slated for a significant modernization initiative, with a mandated 25 percent growth target for the upcoming financial year. The directive comes from Yasha Mudgal, Commissioner Secretary of the Cooperative Department, who chaired a detailed review meeting assessing the institution’s current operations and future prospects.

Operational Review and Renovation Directives

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat, included key officials such as Mohammad Shafiq Chak, Registrar Cooperative Societies, J&K, and Bhawani Attri, Deputy Registrar (Agri) and Member, Board of Administrators, Super Bazar Jammu. The General Manager of Super Bazar Jammu presented a comprehensive overview of the organization’s status, financial performance, and operational challenges. A central point of discussion was the ongoing renovation work at the Gandhi Nagar branch, with Commissioner Secretary Mudgal emphasizing the need for timely and quality completion to ensure its early commissioning.

Business Diversification and Member Enrolment

Commissioner Secretary Mudgal stressed the urgent necessity for business diversification to enhance revenue streams. She directed the management to promptly explore and implement the introduction of new product lines, including organic and specialty items, household utility sections, and value-added services. The objective is to transform Super Bazar Jammu into a dynamic, customer-focused, and financially sustainable retail entity capable of competing effectively in the contemporary market. Furthermore, she mandated concerted efforts to enroll all eligible Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Cooperative Marketing Societies (CMS) as members of Jammu Cooperative Wholesale Limited. This initiative aims to strengthen the supply chain and provide direct market access to farmers, aligning with the cooperative principle of “Cooperation among Cooperatives.” The Registrar Cooperative Societies was tasked with personally monitoring this membership drive, with tangible progress expected within the next two months.

Sales Performance and Marketing Strategies

Reviewing the sales performance across various outlets, Commissioner Secretary Mudgal expressed concern over current revenue trends. She instructed the management to formulate a detailed action plan within 15 days aimed at achieving at least a 25 percent increase in sales in the next financial year. The plan is expected to include aggressive marketing strategies, attractive discount schemes, and promotional campaigns designed to boost customer footfall. Additionally, working hours of all Super Bazar outlets and branches are to be revised to better align with public convenience and peak shopping times, with instructions to remain open until late evenings on weekdays and maintain extended hours on weekends to maximize business opportunities.

Operational Efficiency and Staff Development

The directive also encompassed ensuring strict inventory management, reducing wastage, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness across all outlets. Commissioner Secretary Mudgal underscored the importance of regular training and capacity building for staff to enhance service quality and improve customer satisfaction. The overarching goal is to revitalize Super Bazar Jammu into a modern, efficient, and customer-centric establishment.
