External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a significant discussion with his Portuguese counterpart Paulo Rangel, focusing on the ongoing West Asia conflict and avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the conversation took place on Tuesday evening. Minister Jaishankar shared the update on his official social media platform X, noting that the dialogue was productive and covered key areas of mutual interest.

The exchange between the two foreign ministers underscored India’s active engagement in international diplomatic efforts concerning regional stability. The West Asia conflict has been a focal point of discussions for many of India’s diplomatic engagements since its escalation a month ago.

During their conversation, Jaishankar and Rangel exchanged views on the complexities and developments within the West Asia region. This discussion highlights India’s commitment to understanding and contributing to efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and fostering peace in the volatile area.

In addition to the geopolitical discussion, the ministers also explored strategies for further enhancing the bilateral relationship between India and Portugal. Both nations have expressed a desire to deepen economic, cultural, and strategic ties, a sentiment reflected in their high-level exchanges.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has consistently reiterated India’s stance on the evolving situation in the Gulf and West Asia. A day prior to this discussion, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had briefed reporters on the matter.

Jaiswal stated that India continues to closely monitor the situation and advocates for restraint and de-escalation. He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are crucial means to achieve an early resolution to the ongoing conflict.

This diplomatic outreach from India, engaging with European partners like Portugal, demonstrates a broad-based approach to international diplomacy, seeking common ground on critical global issues while simultaneously reinforcing bilateral partnerships.
