New Delhi: Indian Railways has set a new benchmark by achieving a record freight loading of 1,670 million metric tonnes in the current financial year, supported by the daily operation of approximately 25,000 trains across the network. This significant achievement underscores the robust growth and operational efficiency of the national transporter, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The Chenab Times has learned that the substantial operational and infrastructural advancements are being propelled by a record budget allocation to the railways sector, translating into nationwide benefits, particularly for the economically weaker sections and the middle class. These investments, sustained over the past decade, have critically strengthened the railway network and enhanced services for citizens across India.

During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Minister Vaishnaw detailed the operational expansion, noting that in addition to the 25,000 trains running daily, Indian Railways operated 76,352 special trains in the last financial year to effectively manage and meet the escalating passenger demand. This highlights the railways’ capacity to scale operations in response to evolving transportation needs.

The record freight loading figure of 1,670 million metric tonnes signifies the railways’ increasingly vital role in the country’s logistics chain and its contribution to the broader economic framework. This achievement is a testament to the improved efficiency and expanded scale of operations within the freight segment.

Further bolstering the positive outlook, the Minister pointed to significant improvements in safety protocols and systems across the railway network. He reported that the sector has witnessed notable progress in recent years, contributing to a more secure travel and transport experience for millions of passengers and tonnes of cargo.

Vaishnaw also highlighted that the railway sector has recorded strong earnings, a direct reflection of enhanced operational efficiency, higher capacity utilization, and the expanding scope of its services. The strategic investments and policy initiatives are reportedly positioning the railways as a critical engine for inclusive economic growth throughout the nation.

The substantial budgetary support provided to the railways has been instrumental in facilitating ongoing modernization efforts, enhancing connectivity to previously underserved regions, and delivering better services to the public. These concerted efforts aim to consolidate the railways’ position as a key driver of economic development and social progress.
