Ludhiana police have successfully cracked the murder case of Congress leader Parminder Tiwari, arresting two principal suspects after a significant investigation. Tiwari, who served as the Machhiwara Sahib block president, was fatally attacked on March 29.
Investigation Leads to Arrests in Bihar
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the two main accused, identified as Vijay Kumar and Lucky, both residents of Machhiwara Sahib, were apprehended following coordinated raids conducted in Bihar. The arrests mark a crucial breakthrough in the investigation into the violent death of the Congress leader.
Parminder Tiwari was reportedly hacked to death with an axe near Takhran village. The incident occurred while Tiwari was present outside his rented accommodation. The brutal daylight killing had sent shockwaves through the local community.
Dispute Over Land Identified as Motive
Addressing a press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rural, Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the murder was not politically motivated. Instead, the motive appears to stem from a long-standing dispute concerning panchayat land and the subsequent demolition of a house constructed on it.
The deceased leader’s family, however, had initially alleged that the killing was a contract murder. Their concerns had led to a delay in performing the last rites, with the family reportedly waiting for the main accused to be brought into custody.
Previous Arrests and Family’s Stance
Prior to the arrest of the two key suspects, four other individuals had already been taken into custody. These individuals were implicated for allegedly harbouring and providing shelter to the main perpetrators of the crime. The police confirmed that the arrests of Vijay Kumar and Lucky came approximately four days after the commission of the murder.
Following the apprehension of the principal accused and the subsequent completion of necessary legal procedures, the family of Parminder Tiwari was able to proceed with the cremation of the deceased leader.
