Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered a significant overhaul of the Advanced Cancer Institute in Bathinda, directing improvements to infrastructure, technology, and staffing to elevate its status as a world-class healthcare facility.

The Chenab Times has learned that during a surprise inspection on Saturday, Mann emphasized that there would be no compromise on treatment standards. The institute, a constituent college of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, is slated to receive advanced facilities, including robotic surgery, with immediate steps to address personnel shortages aimed at enhancing patient care across the Malwa region.

The Chief Minister reviewed the institute’s operations and engaged with stakeholders to identify areas requiring urgent attention. He stated that the objective of his visit was to strengthen the institution and transform it into a premier healthcare centre for the entire state, rather than to identify faults.

“The Advanced Cancer Institute will be equipped with world-class facilities,” Mann asserted, adding that the hospital, which already provides quality healthcare to patients in the Malwa region, will be further strengthened to become a leading centre across Punjab. The Chief Minister highlighted the planned introduction of several need-based facilities to improve patient outcomes.

The introduction of robotic surgery was specifically mentioned as a key enhancement aimed at significantly benefiting patients. Mann indicated that all necessary steps would be taken to implement this advanced surgical capability at the earliest opportunity.

Addressing concerns regarding staffing, Mann acknowledged a shortage of personnel at the hospital and pledged prompt action. “I have come to know that there is a shortage of staff in the hospital, so necessary steps will be taken for pumping in more manpower in the larger public interest,” he stated.

Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to accessible healthcare, the Chief Minister reminded the public that Ayushman card holders and beneficiaries of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna are entitled to treatment at the cancer care hospital. The Punjab Government, he reiterated, is dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to all residents of the state.
