A police officer in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended, and a circle officer removed from his post, following fresh revelations in a case involving a viral video that allegedly depicted an AK-47 rifle and hand grenades. The initial investigation had classified the weapons shown in the footage as mere toys, leading to a clean chit for an accused individual. Officials stated that the disciplinary action was taken after new findings contradicted the earlier probe.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the video had surfaced in November of the previous year, originating from Sofatpur village in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The footage purportedly showed a man, identified as Aqib, a resident of Meerut district currently based in Dubai, displaying what appeared to be an AK-47 rifle and hand grenades. Following the widespread circulation of the video, Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar of the Nangal police station registered a case related to the incident.

However, the then station house officer and the designated investigating officer for the case, Satyendra Singh, subsequently recorded the statement of the accused, Aqib. Based on this statement, a final report was filed, concluding that the weapons featured in the video were toys. This determination effectively absolved Aqib of any wrongdoing in relation to the display of the items.

Subsequent developments in the investigation have reportedly uncovered suspicious connections involving Aqib. As a result of these new findings, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken over the further probing of the matter. The SP, Abhishek Jha, confirmed that Satyendra Singh has been suspended for his role in the initial investigation. Additionally, Circle Officer Nitesh Pratap Singh has also been removed from his position in connection with the case, indicating a broader departmental review of the handling of the investigation.

The action highlights the scrutiny faced by law enforcement agencies in cases involving sensitive materials and the potential for terror-related links. The initial assessment by the investigating officer, which downplayed the nature of the displayed items, has come under direct challenge, prompting a higher-level investigation by the ATS. This reassessment underscores the importance of thorough and unbiased investigations, especially when concerning the display of arms that could be perceived as a threat or linked to militant activities.

The broader context of such incidents in India involves the diligent efforts of security forces to maintain law and order and counter any potential threats to national security. The swift action taken by the Superintendent of Police in suspending and removing the officers involved demonstrates a commitment to accountability within the police force. The involvement of the ATS indicates that the authorities are treating the matter with the seriousness it warrants, given the nature of the alleged items displayed in the viral video and the potential implications for public safety.

The case now rests with the ATS, which is expected to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into Aqib’s background, his alleged connections, and the origin and nature of the weapons shown in the video. The outcome of this investigation will likely determine the next course of action and could potentially involve further legal proceedings if credible evidence of illegal arms possession or promotion of militancy is found. The suspension of the officers involved serves as a reminder of the vigilance required in handling such sensitive cases and the potential consequences of procedural lapses.
