Retired Judge Gyanendra Kumar Sharma welcomed his only daughter with a joyous procession, transforming a moment often associated with societal disapproval into one of empowerment and a “new beginning.” The celebration defied conventional attitudes, emphasizing the happiness and dignity of the individual over societal expectations. According to reports, Pranita had been married to an Army Major since December 19, 2018, but the marriage reportedly faced significant difficulties, including allegations of mental, physical, and emotional distress. Despite having a son, the situation did not improve, leading Pranita to seek a divorce.
The Meerut family court, presided over by Principal Judge Shaktiputra Tomar, granted the divorce on Saturday, April 4, 2026. In a striking departure from tradition, family members donned black T-shirts emblazoned with the message “I Love My Daughter” as Pranita stepped out of the court premises. Relatives joined in a festive procession, dancing to the beat of drums, escorting her home where further celebrations awaited.
Dr. Sharma articulated his stance to PTI, stating, “If my daughter is not happy in marriage, it is my duty to bring her out of that environment. We did not seek alimony or anything else. I just brought my daughter back.” He underscored that daughters are not possessions and their well-being and dignity should be prioritized above societal pressures. Pranita, who holds a postgraduate degree in Psychology, serves as the finance director at Pranav Vashistha Judicial Academy in Tejgarhi.
