SRINAGAR: The University Council of Cluster University Srinagar, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has given its principal approval to a series of significant academic and administrative reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education and student welfare. The meeting, held at Lok Bhavan in Jammu, saw the endorsement of proposals including the establishment of the Abdul Ahad Azad Chair and the adoption of a postgraduate curriculum framework aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Lieutenant Governor stressed the imperative for targeted reforms to elevate academic standards, bolster student support systems, and modernize the university’s administrative processes through the comprehensive implementation of e-office systems. He also underscored the importance of uniform recruitment rules for non-teaching staff across all universities within the Union Territory, emphasizing the need for transparency and enhanced efficiency in hiring procedures.
The council’s deliberations also focused on broader social responsibilities, with Lieutenant Governor Sinha encouraging increased student engagement in initiatives such as “Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect.” He further advocated for intensified awareness campaigns under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, highlighting the crucial role educational institutions must play in actively combating the drug menace and fostering positive societal transformation. The drive to address drug abuse was a significant point of discussion, with the Lieutenant Governor calling for proactive measures from the university.
During the proceedings, the Vice Chancellor of Cluster University Srinagar, Professor Mohammad Mobin, presented a detailed report on the university’s recent progress and achievements. The Registrar subsequently placed various agenda items before the Council for thorough review and subsequent approval, ensuring a structured approach to governance and strategic planning.
The meeting was attended by a distinguished group of senior officials and academic leaders. The approval of the postgraduate curriculum framework signifies a commitment to modernizing academic programs, ensuring they meet contemporary standards and address emerging fields of study. This move is expected to provide students with more relevant and advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for future academic and professional challenges. The establishment of the Abdul Ahad Azad Chair is intended to foster specialized research and academic discourse in areas pertinent to the region’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
The push for e-office systems aims to streamline administrative functions, reduce paperwork, and improve accessibility to information and services for both staff and students. This digital transformation is viewed as a critical step towards creating a more efficient and responsive administrative environment within the university, aligning it with best practices in modern higher education management. The focus on uniform recruitment rules is designed to create a level playing field for all potential employees and ensure merit-based appointments.
The Lieutenant Governor’s emphasis on social outreach programs like “Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect” and “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” reflects a broader vision of higher education’s role in nation-building and community welfare. By actively involving students in these campaigns, the university aims to cultivate a sense of civic responsibility and contribute meaningfully to societal progress and well-being in Jammu and Kashmir.
