Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh – The Chitrakoot node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor has received a significant boost with the allotment of 75 hectares of land to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for establishing a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing facility. The land papers were formally handed over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, in Lucknow on Wednesday. This development marks a crucial step in bolstering the state’s defence manufacturing capabilities and fostering industrial growth in the Bundelkhand region.
The new facility, a project entailing an investment of approximately ₹562.5 crore, will focus on the production of advanced radar and air defence systems. This strategic move is expected to generate over 300 direct employment opportunities, with a substantial number of indirect jobs anticipated in ancillary and allied sectors. The initiative aligns with the broader ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) vision, aiming to enhance indigenous defence production and reduce reliance on imports.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the initiative’s role in establishing Uttar Pradesh as a strong and reliable identity in defence manufacturing. He highlighted that the project will accelerate economic and industrial development in the Bundelkhand region, transforming Chitrakoot into a prominent centre for defence production. The Chief Minister noted that the strategically located Chitrakoot node, with its logistical connectivity and geographical advantages, is poised to become a key driver of investment, employment generation, and high-technology-based industrial development.
The establishment of this advanced manufacturing unit is projected to not only strengthen high-technology production within the defence sector but also provide a new direction for the expansion of industrial efficiency and technical capabilities in the state. Furthermore, it is expected to create quality employment opportunities for local youth, thereby reducing migration to other regions for work. The project aims to promote skill development, research, and innovation, while also catalyzing growth in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other ancillary industries.
The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, comprising six nodes including Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, and Lucknow, has already attracted over ₹34,000 crore in investments, with ₹12,000 crore disbursed. At least 62 industries have been allotted land across these nodes for production and testing facilities. Officials anticipate that the BEL project will further cement Uttar Pradesh’s position as a significant hub for defence innovation and manufacturing in the country, blending its rich cultural heritage with cutting-edge industrial progress.
