Srinagar’s Old City Bridges: Fencing and Upgradation Nearing Completion

SRINAGAR: Upgrades and fencing work on the historic bridges of Old Srinagar, including Old Zaina Kadal and Aali Kadal, are in their final stages, according to officials overseeing the projects. The development aims to bolster pedestrian safety and enhance urban infrastructure in the Shahr-e-Khaas area.

The Chenab Times has learned that Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing works. The visit, which included key officials such as Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Superintending Engineer R&B Shabir Ahmad, focused on the progress of safety installations and allied development projects along the River Jhelum.

During the inspection, officials reported that the fencing along Old Zaina Kadal, Aali Kadal, and New Zaina Kadal is significantly advanced and nearing completion. These efforts are specifically designed to improve safety for pedestrians navigating these busy, historic thoroughfares and to mitigate the risk of accidents in a densely populated urban environment. The administration has emphasized the importance of these improvements for the well-being of residents and visitors alike.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the necessity for the executing agencies to maintain stringent quality control and adhere to established timelines. He called for precision in execution, ensuring the durability of the installed fencing and the overall coordination of the upgrade works. Mr. Labroo issued a directive for the completion of these bridge-related works within the next week, underscoring the urgency of the project.
