An elderly man, who was paralysed, was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was asleep in the verandah of his house in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the Jaisinghpur area of the district.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the attack took place around 2 a.m. on Saturday. The victim, identified as Vijay Pratap Singh, 58, sustained a gunshot wound to the head at close range. His wife, who was sleeping beside him, was unharmed.
Following the sound of the gunshot, the victim’s family was alerted and subsequently informed the local police. A forensic team visited the scene, collected evidence, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. Police observed blood spatters on a wall near where the incident occurred.
The Superintendent of Police, Charu Nigam, stated that the victim had been suffering from paralysis for the past three years and had recently returned home after receiving medical treatment. The Jaisinghpur Circle Officer, R.K. Chaturvedi, added that the family has reported no known enmities with anyone. He assured that the matter is under investigation and the case would be solved soon.
Vijay Pratap Singh is survived by three sons and two daughters. The family was reportedly preparing for the wedding of his younger daughter, scheduled to take place on April 21, adding a layer of tragedy to the incident.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
