Amritsar police have apprehended six individuals in connection with a grenade attack on the Bhindi Saida police station, a significant development that investigators believe points towards the involvement of a terror module with alleged backing from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the arrests were made during a coordinated operation involving the Amritsar (Rural) Police and their Faridkot counterparts. The operation also led to the recovery of two pistols from the possession of the accused.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab stated that preliminary investigations suggest the arrested individuals maintained direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler. This handler was reportedly orchestrating terror-related activities within Punjab from across the international border.
According to police accounts, evidence gathered indicates that on the intervening night of March 29 and March 30, the arrested individuals procured hand grenades. Subsequently, they conducted a reconnaissance of the Bhindi Saida police station before carrying out the attack.
Sources within the investigation suggest that members of this module were allegedly radicalized and motivated by promises of substantial financial rewards. These incentives were reportedly offered to encourage them to target police establishments across the state.
An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the six accused. The charges filed fall under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Arms Act, as confirmed by the DGP.
Senior police officials indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with a focus on uncovering the broader network, including both forward and backward linkages. The objective is to dismantle the entire terror module implicated in the incident.
