ANANTNAG Two families were rendered homeless in Panchpora village of Sangam, Anantnag, after a devastating fire destroyed two houses early Monday morning. The inferno also consumed all household belongings, including essential items and a significant amount of gold ornaments earmarked for an upcoming wedding.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the blaze, which erupted in the early hours of the day, spread rapidly, engulfing the two residential structures before firefighters could bring it under control. The loss is substantial, with residents reporting that gold valued at approximately ₹10 lakh, intended for the trousseau of the bride-to-be, was completely lost in the fire.
The bride-to-be also reportedly lost all her personal belongings and tailoring work that she had collected from various local clients. The scale of the destruction has left the affected families with nothing but the clothes they were wearing at the time of the incident. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained by the authorities, who have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Local residents and the affected families have appealed to the administration for immediate relief and rehabilitation measures. They are seeking assistance in the form of temporary shelter, essential supplies, and financial aid to help them rebuild their lives. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the otherwise peaceful village, with neighbours coming together to offer support to the displaced families.
The loss of wedding gold, a symbol of prosperity and tradition, adds a layer of emotional distress to the material devastation. The upcoming wedding, a joyous occasion for the families, is now overshadowed by this tragic event. The community is hopeful that swift action from the authorities will provide some solace and support to those who have lost their homes and valuable possessions.
