Pune Airport Enhances Passenger Comfort with New Sleep Pod Facility

Pune, India – Flyers at Pune Airport now have a new option for rest and relaxation with the introduction of sleep pods located at the nearby AeroMall. The facility, launched by start-up Nap Junction in June 2025, offers a low-cost alternative to traditional hotel stays for passengers facing long layovers or arriving during off-peak hours.

Innovative Accommodation for Travelers

The AeroMall, situated a short walk from the airport terminal, features 11 single-occupancy sleep pods, with three designated exclusively for women. These pods are designed to provide privacy, comfort, and security. Each pod is equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, charging points, a reading light, and a small television. For added convenience, passengers are provided with digital lockers for luggage and smaller in-pod storage for valuables like wallets and phones.

The facility also offers a shared work area, Wi-Fi, washrooms, and a meditation room. Passengers can further enhance their experience with optional paid services including massage chairs, hot beverages, and virtual reality experiences. Bookings for the sleep pods can be made online in advance or directly at the facility.

Pricing and Occupancy

The pricing structure is designed for short-duration stays, with a two-hour slot costing Rs 599. Other options include a three-hour stay for Rs 799, a six-hour stay for Rs 1,399, and a 12-hour stay for Rs 1,999. Despite the utility of the service, particularly in a city like Pune with numerous late-night and early-morning flights, operators have noted that occupancy has remained limited. This is largely attributed to a lack of awareness among travelers.

According to The Times of India, the facility, in coordination with airport officials, has seen nearly 60% occupancy in its early days, with AeroMall vice-president Y S Rajput highlighting the relevance of such amenities for cities with a high number of red-eye flights. Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the concept is particularly relevant in Pune due to its schedule of late-night and early-morning flights. However, a facility manager noted that footfall has yet to meet expectations, with occupancy sometimes dwindling even during peak travel seasons.

Passenger Feedback and Future Potential

Travelers who have utilized the service have described it as commendable. Maithili Hansa, a working professional, shared her positive experience, stating that the pods provided a much-needed nap before her early morning flight, allowing her to feel recharged. Frequent flyer Pravesh Jain suggested that better promotion by airport authorities could significantly boost the facility’s visibility and usage. He emphasized the potential for the service to become increasingly popular given Pune’s flight volume, especially between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

The introduction of these sleep pods aligns with broader efforts to enhance passenger experience at Pune Airport. The airport is also implementing its summer schedule for 2026, which includes additional slots and new domestic and international routes, further solidifying Pune’s position as a significant aviation hub. The AeroMall itself offers a 24/7 shopping, dining, and entertainment experience, directly connected to the airport via a footbridge, making it a comprehensive facility for travelers.
