SRINAGAR: A crucial two-day consultative meeting aimed at formulating the regulations for the Jammu and Kashmir School Standards and Safety Authority (JKSSSA) commenced on Monday at the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) premises in Srinagar.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting has convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including subject matter experts, representatives from the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi, and officials from the School Education Department, JKSCERT, the Higher Education Department, various universities within the Union Territory, and members of the civil administration.

The primary objective of these deliberations is to architect a comprehensive and contextually relevant regulatory framework. This framework is intended to govern the operations of the JKSSSA, with a specific emphasis on reinforcing institutional mechanisms designed to uphold quality standards, enforce stringent safety protocols, and establish benchmarks for infrastructure across all educational institutions throughout Jammu and Kashmir.

The inaugural session was presided over by the Chairperson of JKBOSE, Gh Hassan Sheikh, who articulated the imperative for a regulatory structure that is transparent, accountable, and forward-looking. He stressed the need for alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ever-evolving demands of the educational landscape.

Professor Rasmita Das Swain from NIEPA, New Delhi, highlighted the critical importance of integrating best practices, incorporating valuable input from all stakeholders, and acknowledging ground-level realities when drafting the proposed bylaw framework. Her remarks underscored the participatory approach envisioned for the regulatory process.

Throughout the two-day proceedings, participants are scheduled to engage with key thematic areas. These include the proposed governance structure of the JKSSSA, its defined regulatory mandates, the establishment of effective compliance systems, the setting of quality assurance parameters, and the comprehensive development of school safety standards. The consultative process is designed to be interactive, featuring thematic presentations and structured group discussions, all geared towards the creation of a robust and practically implementable regulatory framework for the entire school education system in the Union Territory.

The initiative signifies a concerted effort by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to enhance the overall quality and safety of school education, ensuring that institutions meet national standards while remaining sensitive to local requirements and contexts. The outcomes of this consultative meeting are expected to lay the groundwork for future policies and actions aimed at improving the educational environment for students across the region.
