New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) recently hosted a vibrant two-day Jammu and Kashmir Cultural and Tourism Festival, marking a significant effort to celebrate and promote the Union Territory’s rich heritage and tourism offerings. The event, organized by the Kongposh Organising Team in collaboration with JMI’s Cultural Committee, aimed to reintroduce the region’s distinct traditions to a wider audience.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the festival featured a diverse array of J&K’s cultural expressions, including traditional handicrafts, folk music, and various art forms. Special emphasis was placed on tourism promotion, with curated stalls and interactive photo booths designed to highlight the scenic beauty and cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir. The event successfully drew substantial participation from students and visitors across the Jamia Millia Islamia campus.

The festival was further enriched by performances from renowned artists such as Noor Muhammad Sahab, Ali Safuddin, Ayaan Sajjad, and Asiya Poswal and Sumeet, who contributed to the authenticity and depth of the cultural showcase. These artistic contributions provided attendees with a direct experience of the region’s performing arts.

The organization of the festival was a collaborative endeavor, spearheaded by Prof Neelofer Afzal, Chairperson of the Cultural Committee, and Mir Mujeeb, Chairperson of the Organising Team. Their leadership was instrumental in ensuring the event’s successful execution.

Mir Mujeeb expressed his sincere gratitude to the Jamia administration for their unwavering support, specifically acknowledging Vice Chancellor Prof Mazher Asif, Registrar Prof Mehtab Alam, and Teacher-in-Charge Prof Maqsood Ahmad Malik. He also extended thanks to Prof Neelofer Afzal for her guidance and lauded the efforts of faculty members, particularly Dr S M Arif, for significantly amplifying the event’s reach through social media engagement.

Support and cooperation were also received from key external partners, including the J&K Tourism Department, represented by Miss Tabish, and the J&K Bank. These collaborations were vital in facilitating the smooth operation and overall success of the festival.

The festival’s success was largely attributed to the collective efforts of the students, research scholars, and faculty members of Jamia Millia Islamia. Members of the J&K student community played a crucial role in infusing the program with authenticity and energy. Furthermore, the involvement of social media influencers helped in expanding the festival’s visibility and reach beyond the campus.

A dedicated team of 12 student volunteers worked diligently throughout the event, managing operations and coordination. Their commitment underscored a strong spirit of cultural representation and effective teamwork. The Kongposh festival is seen as a vital step in revitalizing cultural engagement on campus and fostering a greater understanding of Jammu and Kashmir’s traditions and its significant tourism potential.
