Jammu and Kashmir Police Arrest 11 Drug Peddlers, Seize Contraband Across Valley

Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their anti-narcotics campaign, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals suspected of drug peddling. The operations, conducted across various districts of the Union Territory, also resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of contraband and cash.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the police have been actively pursuing a comprehensive strategy against drug trafficking as part of the “100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.” These recent arrests underscore the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to combat the drug menace and protect the region’s youth.

In Anantnag district, police apprehended three drug peddlers in two separate incidents. At Tulkhan Bridge in Bijbehara, Arif Ahmad Dar was taken into custody after authorities recovered 1.269 kilograms of charas powder. In a subsequent operation at the Batengoo–Uranhall crossing, Aaqib Fayaz and Mudasir Ahmad were arrested, with 78 grams of charas and their vehicle seized.

Pulwama district saw the arrest of four individuals involved in drug peddling. Two persons were apprehended at Singu Narbal on suspicion of possessing 7.5 grams of a heroin-like substance and Rs 1,500 in cash. In another checkpoint operation at Rajpora Bridge, two more individuals were arrested with 8.5 grams of a brown sugar-like substance. The two motorcycles used in these alleged offences were also impounded by the authorities.

Further action was taken in Handwara, where police arrested Gh Mohi-u-Din Dar of Waskura during routine naka checking at Shahlaal Crossing. Contraband, described as a charas-like substance, was recovered from his possession.

In Baramulla, two alleged peddlers, identified as Danish Ahmad Parrey of Dargam Tilgam and Shabir Ahmad Mir of Kreeri, were arrested at Wanigam Payeen. The police recovered 18 grams of charas and 70 tablets of Tapentadol from them, along with the vehicle they were using.

The anti-narcotics drive extended to Bandipora district, where Suhail Ahmad Dar of Banyari Ajas was arrested during naka checking at Ajas Sumbal. Authorities seized 5.7 kilograms of charas powder from his possession.

Formal cases have been registered against all apprehended individuals under the relevant sections of the law at the respective police stations. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the full extent of their alleged involvement in drug trafficking networks. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their firm stance against drug peddling, emphasizing that stringent actions will continue to be implemented to eradicate the drug menace from the Union Territory.
