NEW DELHI: Heatwave conditions are set to grip isolated pockets across northwest, central, and adjoining parts of east India over the next four to five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that areas including Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to experience heatwave conditions on various dates between April 20 and April 25.
The meteorological department further specified that hot and humid weather is anticipated in isolated pockets over Gangetic West Bengal from April 20 to April 26. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with Kerala and Mahe, are also forecast to experience these conditions from April 20 to April 24. Hot and humid weather is also predicted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during April 20–22, and for coastal Gujarat on April 24 and April 25.
In addition to the heatwave, the IMD has forecast warm night conditions in isolated pockets. This is expected over Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha on April 20 and April 21. Chhattisgarh is likely to experience warm nights on April 20, while Odisha can expect them between April 20 and April 22.
The IMD also highlighted the possibility of moderate to intense thunderstorm activity across various states in south, central, east, and northwest India on Monday. The department’s forecast also includes a potential for hailstorms over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh on the same day.
