Karnal, Haryana – Authorities in Haryana’s Karnal district have imposed stringent measures to halt the inflow of wheat from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh into local grain markets. The directive comes amid ongoing procurement operations and aims to ensure that local produce is prioritised and farmers do not face undue competition.

District Administration Enforces Strict Border Checks

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma has issued a stern warning and mandated immediate, robust action to prevent any wheat originating from Uttar Pradesh from entering Karnal’s grain markets. This decision follows reports indicating that despite the establishment of two checkpoints along the Haryana-UP border, wheat from Uttar Pradesh continues to find its way into the district’s markets.

Dr. Sharma emphasised the seriousness of the situation, stating that the arrival of wheat from other states during the peak procurement season is unacceptable. He held a meeting with Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials from various procurement agencies at the Mini Secretariat to discuss and implement the new directives.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that strict action would be taken against anyone found facilitating the entry of UP wheat. He warned that the license of any arhtiya (commission agent) found involved in the illegal procurement or transportation of wheat from Uttar Pradesh would be immediately cancelled. Furthermore, secretaries of the Market Committees would also face disciplinary action if any negligence or carelessness is detected on their part in enforcing the ban.

“We are getting complaints that wheat is arriving from UP in the grain markets of Karnal, which is not acceptable. If any arhtiya is found involved in it, the license of his firm will be suspended. No wheat from other state should be allowed into Karnal’s grain markets under any circumstances,” Dr. Sharma stated during the meeting, underscoring the non-negotiable nature of the order.

Expediting Wheat Procurement and Lifting

In addition to preventing the entry of out-of-state wheat, the Deputy Commissioner also directed procurement agencies to accelerate the process of lifting harvested wheat from the grain markets. The aim is to ensure that farmers can unload their produce without delay and that the procurement process moves efficiently, thereby preventing any difficulties for the farming community.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that procurement operations across all grain markets in Karnal are proceeding smoothly. To further streamline the process, officials have been instructed to ensure the speedy removal of procured wheat from the markets. This proactive measure is intended to maintain a steady flow of operations and prevent congestion.

Enhancing Logistics at Silos

To support the accelerated lifting of wheat, Dr. Sharma instructed an increase in the number of labourers at the silos located in Assandh and Gharaunda. This logistical enhancement is expected to facilitate the quicker unloading of wheat from trucks, thereby ensuring that the lifting process remains uninterrupted. The coordinated effort among all officials and personnel involved in the procurement chain is deemed crucial for ensuring that farmers do not face any inconvenience during this critical period.

The district administration’s proactive stance aims to safeguard the interests of local farmers and maintain the integrity of the wheat procurement system in Karnal district. By implementing these measures, authorities are striving to create a favourable environment for the agricultural sector within the state.
