A criminal on the run, carrying a reward of Rs 15,000, was apprehended by the Delhi Police following a brief exchange of gunfire near Amar Colony in southeast Delhi, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Information was received by the police that the individual, identified as Mohammad Rizwan, was present in the Amar Colony area. Rizwan is reportedly wanted by the Uttar Pradesh Police. Acting on this intelligence, a police team laid a trap to intercept him.

According to police accounts, when the team attempted to take Rizwan into custody, he reportedly opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest. The police team retaliated, and Rizwan sustained a bullet injury to his right leg. He was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody.

The Chenab Times has learned that Rizwan had allegedly arrived in Delhi with the intent of committing a crime. His apprehension by the police prevented him from executing any planned criminal activities. A case has been registered concerning the incident, and a further investigation is underway.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to track down and apprehend wanted individuals operating across state borders. The reward offered by the Uttar Pradesh Police underscores the severity of the charges against Rizwan. The exchange of fire, though brief, resulted in an injury, indicating a resistance to lawful arrest.

Southeast Delhi has been a focal point for various law enforcement operations in recent times, with police actively working to maintain law and order and curb criminal activities within its jurisdiction. The apprehension of Rizwan is seen as a success for the Delhi Police in their ongoing battle against crime, particularly against individuals sought by other state police forces.

The legal proceedings following Rizwan’s arrest will likely involve coordination between the Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police to facilitate his transfer and prosecution for the charges he faces in that state. The recovered firearm, if any, will also be a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation. The police have stated that further details will be made available as the investigation progresses, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring accountability for criminal actions.

The incident, which occurred in a busy urban area, also raises questions about the movement and activities of wanted criminals within metropolitan regions. Police presence and surveillance are expected to be intensified in sensitive areas to prevent such occurrences and ensure public safety. The swift action taken by the police team in Amar Colony prevented potential escalation and ensured the safe capture of the wanted individual.
