SRINAGAR: Maharashtra ministers have inaugurated a newly constructed house for the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who was killed last year in the Pahalgam militant attack while attempting to protect tourists. The initiative aims to provide succour to the bereaved family and honour the courage of the deceased.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the house inauguration ceremony was attended by Maharashtra ministers Sanjay Shirsat and Yogesh Kadam, alongside local residents and officials. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also joined the event virtually. The pledge to construct the house was made by Shinde’s party following the tragic incident.
The ministers highlighted the importance of fulfilling promises made in the wake of tragedies, stating that the prompt completion of the house construction demonstrates a genuine commitment rather than mere symbolism. They emphasized that the gesture serves to honour a fallen individual and to reinforce the values of communal harmony and shared humanity. The act underscores solidarity and recognition of the bravery displayed by the young man who sacrificed his life while safeguarding others, irrespective of religious or other affiliations.
During the event, the ministers expressed optimism about the evolving security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, characterizing the region as peaceful and encouraging domestic tourism. They conveyed that incidents of violence should not overshadow the inherent beauty and hospitality of Kashmir, urging people to continue visiting the Valley to experience its allure.
Syed Adil Hussain Shah’s father, while speaking at the inauguration, expressed a profound sense of loss coupled with pride for his son’s ultimate sacrifice. He conveyed deep gratitude to the Shiv Sena leadership, specifically mentioning Eknath Shinde, for their role in the construction of the house, the provision of household necessities, and a financial assistance package of Rs 5 lakh. Adil’s sister also conveyed her appreciation for the party’s efforts in not only building a new home but also in recognizing her brother’s sacrifice in a meaningful manner.
Local residents took the opportunity to voice developmental needs for their area. They specifically requested that Hapatnard, the native village of the deceased youth, be developed as a tourist destination to create employment opportunities and improve local livelihoods. The visiting ministers assured the community that they would present this demand to the relevant government authorities. They also suggested that if the tourism proposal for Hapatnard is approved, the area could potentially be developed and named in memory of Adil Hussain Shah.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has also extended support to Adil Hussain Shah’s family. The Lieutenant Governor’s administration has facilitated a government job for his wife within the fisheries department, and the Waqf Board has provided employment to his brother.
