SRINAGAR: A prominent Member of Parliament from the National Conference has pressed the Jammu and Kashmir administration to expedite decisions on a crucial reservation file, urging officials to either proceed with the matter or publicly acknowledge any disinterest.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that National Conference leader and Member of Parliament for Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, on Thursday expressed his frustration over the prolonged delay in resolving issues related to reservation within the Union Territory. He directly addressed the administration, stating that the time had come for decisive action or a clear admission of inaction.
Ruhullah highlighted that the administration had previously indicated that a file pertaining to reservation had been forwarded to the Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor. However, he questioned the timeline for a decision, emphasizing the need for the Lieutenant Governor’s secretariat to act promptly.
“We are waiting for the government. They said they have sent a file to the LG office,” Ruhullah stated, underscoring the ongoing wait. He further pressed for clarity on the process, asking, “When will the LG office bring the file back? If they cannot go, at least tell me when they will come with it? When will they come with the students?” his questions implied a call for accountability and transparency in the decision-making process, particularly concerning the impact on student communities.
The Srinagar MP criticized the administration’s approach, suggesting that merely reporting the forwarding of a file served little practical purpose. He articulated that the administration’s responsibility extended beyond the initial step of dispatching documents. “Their job is to tell people that we have sent the file. You can see the rest yourself. The government should acknowledge one thing out of the two — then we will see,” Ruhullah contended, suggesting a need for either demonstrable progress or an honest disclosure of their stance on the reservation issue.
Responding to speculation about his potential involvement in forming a new political party, MP Ruhullah dismissed such rumors. He stated his lack of knowledge regarding any such initiatives, emphasizing his current affiliation. “I do not know who is forming one. Tell me which party I belong to. I do not know anything about this,” he clarified, aiming to focus attention back on the administrative issues at hand.
