SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals in separate operations in Anantnag and Sopore districts, recovering contraband substances from their possession. The arrests are part of the ongoing efforts by the police to combat drug trafficking and protect the youth from substance abuse.
The Chenab Times has learned that in Anantnag, acting on specific intelligence, police conducted a raid at the residence of Farooq Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, in Nowbugh Veeri, Bijbehara. During the search, officers recovered approximately 371 grams of a charas-like powder. Wani was apprehended at the scene.
In a parallel operation in Sopore, a police team intercepted a suspicious individual during routine naka checking at Hygam. A personal search of the individual led to the recovery of a charas-like substance. The accused has been identified as Farhad Yousef Mir, son of Mohammad Yousef Mir, a resident of Hygam.
Following the recoveries, police have registered cases under the relevant sections of the law at the respective police stations. Investigations have been initiated in both incidents to ascertain the full extent of the drug network and to identify other potential accomplices.
Authorities have described these operations as a significant step in the administration’s broader anti-drug campaign. The police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating the menace of narcotics from society and have appealed to the public for their cooperation and assistance in providing information that could help curb drug trafficking.
The recovered contraband is currently undergoing forensic analysis. The police have emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling and stated that such operations will continue to be conducted with increased vigilance across the Union Territory.
