SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday emphasized that the government alone cannot eradicate the escalating drug addiction problem, stressing the necessity of a widespread societal commitment involving parents and the public.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Abdullah, while speaking to reporters in Srinagar, stated, “Drug addiction has deeply affected our society. It cannot be eliminated unless parents and the public actively support the efforts. Government action alone is not enough.” He underscored that public participation is the most critical component in addressing the crisis, asserting that only through the unified efforts of families and communities can the detrimental effects of substance abuse be mitigated.

“If society comes forward and plays its role, the suffering caused by drug addiction can be overcome,” Abdullah added, highlighting the interconnectedness of community involvement and societal well-being in overcoming addiction.

Shifting to political discourse, Abdullah asserted that his party, the National Conference, has effectively countered the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kashmir. He also commented on political trends observed in other Indian states, predicting that Mamata Banerjee would likely secure re-election in West Bengal. Abdullah suggested that the Indian National Congress appeared to be leading in Kerala and anticipated a victory for the Congress alongside MK Stalin’s party in Tamil Nadu. He attributed these electoral forecasts to divine providence.

Addressing global affairs, Abdullah underscored the imperative for peace in the Middle East, cautioning that the continuation of conflict could precipitate severe global repercussions. “If peace is not restored in the Middle East, the consequences will be severe for the entire world. All nations and leaders must work towards ending the conflict immediately,” he urged. He further expressed a hope that the leadership of the United States, in collaboration with nations such as China and Russia, would initiate measures to de-escalate tensions and contribute to ending the ongoing conflict.
